Glossary of Terms
Age Harmonic
The julian day of birth or event = x (found in the ephermeris)
x divided by 365.24219 = age harmonic
Almuten
Meaning “the winner”, it is the planet which is considered to be the strongest in a chart after appraising the strengths of all the other planets using a point system. Considerations are given to traditional techniques such as Exaltation, term, triplicity and face, the resulting prominent planet is considered to be the true chart ruler.
An easier method might be to press your horary button for the natal chart and look at the highest positive value against the planets. It can work as a rescue planet, working in morality and ethics, or as a planet to hide behind.
Hitler only had 1 planet that was +’ve, Venus in the 7th house, as his strongest planet, it helped him influence many people, the public could not inherently see the weakness of the other planets or the mans personality beyond it, they only saw Venus. Sometimes the strongest planet will give the person the image of another sun sign, [the sign the Almuten planet resides in]. It’s a real Chameleon.
Angles

There are four angles which cut the ecliptic in the shape of a cross; they are positioned at the cusp of the 1st house [ASC], where the celestial horizon and the ecliptic intercept in the East. The cusp of the 4th house is where the meridian and the ecliptic intercept in the north. At the cusp of the 7th house [DES], where the celestial horizon and ecliptic intercepts in the west and at the cusp of the 10th house, where the meridian and ecliptic intercept in the south.
Angular houses

Angular houses are the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th.
A planet is considered angular if it is within 8 degrees of the Asc, Ic, MC or Dsc.
These planets manifest more powerfully in these positions.
Within 4 degrees of the Asc relates to the physical brain
Within 4 degrees of the IC, closer the better, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto here is associated with mediumship abilities, Mars, working with spiritual energies.
Anti-culminating
Describes a planet dropping below the horizon and reaching its lowest elevation, due to the rotation of the Earth. Out of sight , out of mind, but it is still influencing the unconscious.
Antiscia
The word “Antiscia” comes from the Latin antiscii and the Greek antiskioi meaning anti-opposite and Skia “shadow”. Translated as “shadows on the other side”.
Antiscia is the mirror image of the planets reflected over the Cancer-Capricorn axis, the axis connecting the two solstice points together.
Any antiscion point can be activated when occupied by another natal planet, by transit, direction, or progressed planet, this behaves much like a reflex action, often triggered when solutions to problems are seen.
Often Antiscia connections can be found between charts where no other obvious planetary aspects can be seen either in declination or longitude.
The Antiscia has the ability to bring issues surrounding that planet into clear focus.

Aphelion
The point in a planets orbit where it is the furthest from The Sun. Issues related to the planet in question appear to turn around as they can go no further in that direction. i.e. Businesses reach saturation point, need to branch out in another direction, there is a requirement to refocus on something else.
Apogee
Where the Moon is furthest from the Earth, it appears smaller in the sky. When changes are apparent to the Moon, nature often reacts, things are emotionally taken away.
Arabic parts
Also known as lots, they are a variation on midpoints, the longitudinal degrees of two planets are either taken away or added together then taken or added to the Ascendant.
They are astrological sums, the most famous being the part of fortune.
I find they work up to a point, as long as the midpoint of a resulting degree it falls on is part of the interpretation. But they need to be worked with very tight orbs, 5 degrees for an eclipse, certainly no more than a degree, 30 minutes max in most cases.

Aries point
The Aries point is very meaningful as it symbolizes a person’s public image. The Aries point refers not only to 0 degrees Aries, but to the midpoints it also falls on. The midpoints are of the 8th harmonic, therefore 0 degrees Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, as well as 15 degrees Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius too.
Perhaps Aries reflex points are easier to remember as 0 degree of the cardinals and 15 degrees of the fixed signs, and using an orb of up to 2 degrees.
Whatever midpoint or planet falls on the Aries point will describe the nature of the public image, just how far and wide this potential image falls outside the front door will depend on other supporting factors in the chart and personal desire for that recognition.
Just some of the planetary symbols;
Sun Potential for public recognition and to be well known; but this can be notoriety as well as celebrity status.

If there is not a planet on the Aries point, take a look at the midpoints.
Ascendant [rising sign]
Where the Eastern horizon intercepts the ecliptic.
The Ascendant is considered the most personal point in a chart, describing those first moments of breath to when illness strikes, it describes the immediate emotional environment and aspects made to it are personal in nature. The Parts are really an in-depth study of the relationship of the ascendant to the other planets. The Ascendant describes motivation, and physical looks, and the energy coming to us to use.
Asteroids
“The asteroids” are sometimes are referred to as the four goddesses; Ceres, Juno, Pallas and Vesta.
Not only are they essential in relationship astrology, but business astrology too.

There are many more asteroids, a 1000 feature in the solar fire De-luxe programme, [which I will not be covering].
There are 25 standard asteroids that are regularly used alongside Martha Lang Westcott’s interpretations. [I’ve added numerology in case you are wondering what the numbers and random words represent.]

Astrocartography
Is a mapping technique, that shows planetary lines crossing the world/country, it is used to pinpoint locations of importance, of change, anything where location is important!
Sometimes people will relocate in order for a life event to happen!.
Astronomy
Is the scientific study of the sky, originally they were observations using the naked eye, but now technology has lead to massive telescopes in prominently placed observatories around the world.
Astronomy is essential to astrology
Ayanamsa
A term used to describe the degree difference between sidereal and tropical zodiacs. The sidereal system is always aligned with the fixed stars, while the tropical is aligned with 0 degrees Aries.
An exact value of 24 degrees [difference] was computed by Fagan and Bradley in 1950, but there are a large range of different values in use. The ayanamsa moves approximately 50” a year.
Azimuth
The azimuth of a point on the celestial sphere is defined as the angular distance measured towards the east, from north, along the astronomical horizon to the intersection of the great circle passing through the point and the astronomical zenith with the astronomical horizon.
Baily’s beads
During an eclipse of the Sun, both before and after the Sun passes behind the Moon a number of bright spots appear along the edge of the Moons dark disk. These are Baileys beads, thought to be caused by sunlight passing through valleys between the mountains of the Moon. Astronomer Francis Bailey [1774-1844] first observed the beads in 1836.
Barycentre
The Barycentre, is the gravity centre of the universe and lies at 07°Virgo 48.838'.
The Bary centre is the planetary centre of mass of the solar system, which the planets orbit around. It is usually aligned in the suns position itself.
When the largest of the planets come together in a particular grouping they create a special set of circumstances where the interconnecting gravitation pull is such that the Sun appears to rotate backwards against the barycentre.
This rarely happens, just seven times in the last 3400 years, when generations experience the effect, the last was in 1989/1990 there is an accelerated rate of social change. i.e. the Berlin wall came down, symbolizing the death of an ideology. There were many upheavals in the Balkans.
The Earths weather patterns changed fires in Indonesia, America and Australia, floods and bad winters elsewhere.
The last time this event happened, in 1810-1812 and prior to that in 1632-1633 the weather made massive changes but also the weather drove people from one place to another. The cause may be different, but Europe has certainly seen a mass population move, many have moved into the UK.
Looking at earlier effects of this phenomenon, the effect has been felt for up to 20 years. It looks like change is with us until 2010, this is likely to have a massive destabilising effect on different economy’s.
World refugee problems and crisis and frictions between nations are likely to stabilize in time, watch for 2008, numerically a 10 year, when new attitudes will emerge.
Bayer Nomenclature
It was Johann Bayer (1603) who first used the letters of the Greek alphabet in constructing a star name related to magnitude, a Greek letter is used with the Latin possessive form of the name of the constellation in which the star is located.
The names were given to the brightest stars in each constellation, starting with apha as the brightest and omega the faintest. An early method of identifying magnitude.
The Greek letters are:
a b g d e z h q i k l m u x o p r s t u f c y w
Their names respectively are:
alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu
nu, xi, omicron, pi, rho, sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi, omega
Benefic
The planets Jupiter and Venus, but also the waxing Moon [moving towards full Moon]
Besieged
Traditionally a besieged planet is one that sits between Saturn and Mars in the same sign, and the effect is very detrimental to that planet, there is no way to turn, it is basically cornered, and the person/situation it relates to in the chart will feel that way.
Today besieged includes extends to one planet being in a different sign, also besieged can be benefic if surrounded by Jupiter and Venus.
Natal charts aspects act as gifts, besieged planets are referred to transits.
Binary stars
At least half the stars in the Universe are multiple star systems in orbit around each other; a pair orbiting each other is a binary star.
Black Hole
Astronomers consider that when a body becomes so massive for its size that not even light escapes from the powerful gravitational pull it exerts, it is called a black hole. It is thought that Black holes occur whenever a star exceeds 3 times the mass of the Sun, it collapses after fusion has stopped.
Kryon tells us that black holes come in pairs, one is huge and the other tiny by comparison and located quite close, they balance the energy in the galaxies.
Astrologically black holes depict areas of susceptibility to dramatic and intense, sometimes violent and usually unsuspected shifts in our reality.
They also show points of energy influx, or energy drain. In finance they show “Giving away”, “taken away” and losses.
There are many black holes, but the largest and most notable is Cygnus x-1 at 13 degrees Aquarius on the ecliptic.
i.e When Mercury was 14 degrees Libra rising at the time of 9/11 it was aligned with a black hole. Mercury was considered the “action” symbol in the chart at that time.
Black Moon
There are different meanings for the black Moon in astronomy and astrology, in astronomy it is the absence of a new Moon in a month the next time this happens in August 30 2008.
Black Moon is the mean Lunar apogee [a point when the Moon is furthest from the Earth].
Sometimes an alternative name to black moon is Lilith.
The point opposite the Black Moon is called Priapus.
There are actually 3 black moons also called Lilith in Astrology.
1. The Black Moon (as a mathematical point).
As a mathematical point it corresponds to position of the Moon when it is at Apogee (that point in its orbit when it is farthest from the Earth).
2. The Dark Moon (a theoretical etheric second Moon that orbits the Earth 3 times more distant than our normal Moon and is a quarter of the size.)
The most accurate ephemeris of the dark Moon was written by Ivy Goldstein Jacobson, but as she copyrighted it, free distribution was stopped; so the earlier less accurate 60 year earlier version appears in astrology software programmes.
3. Asteroid number 1181 that orbits the Sun in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
The symbol for Asteroid Lilith is a stylized hand that signals warning, greeting, or blessing.
Asteroid Lilith can be found by going to http://ephemeral.info/eph/
This is Martha Westcott’s Lilith; Triangulation; competing; selection & rejection; decisions (regarding angle or aspects ;) divided loyalties; favouritism; gender stereotypes; use of sex or rejection for dominance.
Lilith is described as signifying resentment and inner rage; she sets herself apart, flies into exile. She is fiercely independent. She refuses to submit to the assumed authority of another or to compromise her beliefs.
All Black Moons are named after the Dark Goddess Lilith.
Lilith first appeared in Sumerian mythology about 5,000 years ago. As "handmaid" to the Goddess Inanna, Queen of Heaven, she would gather men in from the fields for the sacred rites.
Another myth refers to story of Adam and Eve, Adam expected Lilith [his first wife] to be submissive to him, but, claiming equality, she would not be put beneath him and flew away to a lifelong exile near the Red Sea, where she mated with evil spirits and bore scores of demonic children. Meanwhile, Yahweh again tried to create a partner for Adam, this time taking one of Adams ribs and turning it into Eve - a creation from Adam and not one in her own right, like Lilith. [Sounds like genetic engineering from Adams bone marrow]
In the horoscope of a male, Lilith can point to the woman he fears most or to the woman that drives him to despair.
Black Sun
The Black Sun is a mathematical point that corresponds to the Sun when it is furthest from the Earth.
On July 4th the Sun is Aphelion, furthest from the Earth, and on January 3rd, the Sun is perihelion, closest to the Earth [estimated to be 147.5 million kilometres]
It has nothing to do with the burnt out Sun that was rumoured to be the source of the power of the Aryan race in the past. Although according to esoteric literature and a Kryon channel Earth had two suns originally.
Cadent houses
Cadent Houses are the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th.
Planets in Cadent Houses are known to become weakened and ineffective, they have difficulty in expressing themselves.
Cardinal ingress
In mundane astrology the concerns for the year are represented with the Suns ingress into Aries, [the vernal equinox] but the charts of all the cardinal signs can be treated in the same way. The Suns ingress into Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn show the general indications affecting the nation during the next period, which in turn depends on which sign is rising.
The potency of the Aries ingress depends on the sign at the Ascendant, for a fixed sign [Aries, Leo, Taurus, Aquarius] the chart is potent for a year, for a mutable sign rising [Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces] the chart is potent for six months, then for a cardinal sign rising, it is potent for just three months.
Cazami
When a planet is within 17 minutes of a conjunction with the Sun, is said to be Cazami, and at the "heart of the Sun". This greatly strengthens the planet. The Sun combines with the planet for an all powerful expression.
Celestial equator
The earth’s equator projected on to the Celestial Sphere
Celestial latitude (φ) and longitude (λ)
The measurements used to describe a planet's position in the sky using the Ecliptic Co-ordinate System. The ecliptic system is linked to the Earth's orbit around the Sun, which forms a great circle called the ecliptic. This circle is divided into 360 degrees of longitude (30° per sign). Celestial Longitude is measured East from the Vernal Point.
Celestial Sphere
Is the sky as it appears to an observer.
Chaldean order
The order of the visible planets from the slowest to the fastest: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. The slower the planet the more powerful is becomes.
Combust
A planet is said to be Combust when it is in the same sign as the Sun and is between 17 minutes and 8.5 degrees in conjunction with the Sun. . Combustion debilitates the planet, making it powerless. The exception to this rule is Mars, as it is similar in nature to the Sun, being both hot and dry like the Sun.

*In terms of Earth's Mean Distance.
In terms of Earth's Mean Distance. Cunningham's Comet, first observed in 1940, had a tail of an estimated length of 60 million miles, pointing directly upward. It was of a magnitude of 1.7.
Halley's Comet, 1835 and 1910, is the most historic comet. Every appearance has been traced back to 240 B.C.
The head of Holmes's Comet had a diameter in excess of a million miles. It is one of the largest of record.
The great comet of 1843, which seems not to have been given a name, was apparently a Periodic Comet, with an orbit of 400 years. A tail 200 million miles in length, the longest tail of any comet of record, made it a sight of grandeur. Its perihelion distance, 300,000 miles, was extremely short, and carried it through the Sun's corona.
Non-Periodic Comets. Among the records of non-periodic comets are: Great comet of 1729. - The greatest of record, yet details are lacking. Its perihelion distance, approximately 384 million miles, over four times distance of sun to earth, brought it no closer to Sun than Jupiter's orbit, although it did go around the Sun. Had it come as close as the average comet, its splendor would have transcended that of any other comet.
De Cheseaux's Comet, 1744 - an unusual comet, six tails - Great Comet of 1811. The largest comet in actual size ever observed, except the 1729 comet of which little is known. The head was 1,125,000 miles in diameter - larger than the Sun. The tail was 100,000,000 miles in length. It was a magnificent sight. Its aphelion-distance was 14 times the distance of Neptune from the Sun. The wine in France was particularly good that season, and for years was famed as "Comet Wine."
Great Comet of 1861. Earth passed through the tail which subtended over 100° of arc. At one time the comet was brighter than any star or planet except Venus at its brightest, and a peculiar glow suffused the entire sky. One of the finest, probably the brightest comet. Could be seen in broad daylight, even at noon.
Morehouse's Comet, 1908, showed the most rapid variations in appearance - the tail changing so much from day to day that sometimes it could not be recognized as the same comet.
Comet 1925a. In perihelion distance it was one of the largest - nearly as far away as Jupiter.
Collision with Earth. On June 30, 1908, occurred in Siberia the greatest meteorite fall in historic times. It was probably the head of a small comet. It had no connection with Morehouse's Comet.
Conjunction
The major planetary aspect formed between two planets occupying the same degree of celestial longitude, although anything up to a maximum of an 8 degree orb can be used. The conjunction aspect represents the union of planetary energies, except in the Suns case.
Contra-parallel
An aspect made through declination where both planets are in opposite declination to each other. I.e. +14 & -14, it is considered a hard aspect in transit, but not in the natal chart.

Constellations
Constellations originally consisted of several bright stars treated as a group; it is known that back in the Sumerian times [3000-250 BC] stories were told about the particular constellations, although most of the present stories come from Greek sources.
The group of stars that outline a particular shape is called an asterism I.e. the big dipper.
In an effort to “standardise” constellations the International Astronomical Union decreed each constellation be bounded by straight north-south and East/West lines, making the larger traditional constellations extend beyond the boundaries of modern astronomical constellations.
There are 87 modern constellations; they do not overlay Ptolemy’s 48 original constellations.
If the constellations fall on the path of the ecliptic, and extend over the 8 degree orb north and south of the ecliptic, then they fall in the Zodiac [translated as “wheel of light”]

Usually charts are reviewed with a view to the future, going forward in time, but converse simply means going backward in time.
The term usually applies to “Converse progressions” and directions, and they are calculated in just the same way, but applied to the past.
I.e. 20 days prior to birth represents aged 20 years in the case of a progressed or directed chart.
Cosmobiology
A complete system of astrology developed by the 20th century German astrologer, Reinhold Ebertin, based on the use of midpoints, dynamic aspects, graphic ephemeredes and dials.

Decan or face
A decan is a 10 degree subdivision of a Zodiac sign. There are 3 decans per Zodiac sign and 36 decans in the 360 degree ruler.
Each decan is assigned to a planetary ruler.

Declination
The maximum possible declination of the Sun is 23° 28' which occurs at the time of Solstices, when the Sun passes the Tropics (0°) of Cancer and (0°) Capricorn, this is the limit of the pole's greatest inclination from the plane of the Earth's orbit.
The first degrees of Aries and Libra have no declination, since at these points the ecliptic intersects the equator. However, planets at this longitude may have declination.
The declination of a body whose longitude and latitude are known is found by this formula:
1. Radius (10,000): Tangent of Ecliptic (23° 27'):: sine of longitudinal distance from equinox: tangent of Angle A.
2. Cosine of Angle A: cosine (latitude plus/minus 90°- minus Angle A): cosine of Ecliptic Obliquity (23° 27'): sine of the Declination.
The Moon, Mercury, Mars reach a declination of 27° north, and on rare occasions Venus reaches 28°. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have practically the same declination as the Sun.
Planets transiting in declination are considered to be “out of bounds”, meaning Saturn can not put restriction on the planet, it is in effect unstoppable. Those who have OOB planets in their charts often experience very different lives to others, finding restriction in joining religious groups, marrying into ready made families, but these decisions are made by choice in adults.
Decumbiture
A horary term used to describe the chart cast for the onset of an illness, when the patient takes to his/her bed. The chart is consulted to determine the prognosis of the malady.

Delta T
The difference between Ephemeris Time and Universal Time (about 62 seconds)
Derived angles
In a progressed chart the progressed Midhaven is considered to progress at the same rate as the secondary progressed Sun, hence making constant angle between Sun and Mc.
The progressed Midhaven is then converted to sidereal time from which the progressed Ascendant is calculated and called a derived angle.
Descendant
The Descendant is where the Western Horizon intersects the Ecliptic.[It is opposite the Ascendant.]
The descendent is the cusp of the 7th house, and describes what a person attracts to them, in forms of partners in business and love. Otherwise it can represent lawsuits, legal contracts, treaties, war. Partners, the 3rd sibling, nieces and nephews, mothers father, fathers father, competitors.
Detriment
Detriment is a term given to a planet in the opposite sign to its rulership. It is considered to be a debility and to cause the nature of the planet to be corrupted.
Aries ~ Venus, Taurus~ Mars, Gemini~Jupiter, Cancer~ Saturn, Leo~ Saturn,
Virgo~ Jupiter, Libra~Mars, Scorpio~ Venus, Sagittarius~ Mercury, Capricorn~ Moon, Aquarius~ Sun, Pisces~ Mercury
Diamond
The Diamond is a mathematical point that corresponds to position of the Sun when it is at Perihelion (that point in its apparent orbit when it is closest to the Earth).
Exact dates vary each year, but On January 4, 2006 the earth was7.5 million km from the sun, while on July 3, 2006 it was the farthest point at 152.6 million km away from the sun.
Direction
A forecasting technique, where the positions of the planets are either all moved forward or backward [converse] by the same amount, [usually 1 degree.]
Solar-Direction;
All planets are directed by the Suns motion in a year, the aspects do not alter within the chart themselves, but they make aspects to the natal chart.
Dispositor
The dispositor of a planet is the ruler of the sign in which the planet is placed.
Diurnal
Diurnal is the name given to a “day chart”, where the birth time remains the same for the same location, all that changes is the date.
The diurnal chart’s ascendant will go through 360 degrees of the chart in 1 year, giving an opportunity for all ascendant signs and MC energies to be experienced.
The diurnal chart is a very powerful tool for daily activity, when the planets contact the ASC/MC axis they hold the energy of their last conjunctions and are dissipated into the daily experience.
Dr Jones’s Chart patterns
Splash Distributed evenly around the wheel, person goes off in all directions, never suffers from being one sided, having ability not to be one-sided and universal and well-rounded.
bundle all planets within a trine, definite one sidedness, often ability along one line, some narrowness, the price one pays for concentration the psychic energy .uncommon.
locomotive ten factors evenly distributed except for one third of the circle. Has the driving force of a locomotive, and strong executive drive, the leading planet is important, can be opportunistic.
bowl all planets lie within 180*, so it is half empty. Self contained, must always relate what they have to larger matters since lacking in half of the wheel, advocates of a cause, and interested in meanings of experience, leading planet has some importance. if planet leading is rising, they scoop up and start things, if sets, they capture and end things.
bucket the bowl with one planet handle. Is more externalized, this type moves people, as a teacher, leader, or agitator, they dip into life, and pour forth the materials of experience with zeal, planet handle must be 60* from nearest planet, if the handle is nearer leading planet, than the trailing planet, it is leaning back, showing self preservation and conservative. Leaning forward, to be rash and self-expending.
see-saw opposition, at least 90*must separate the two groups, while on the other side at least 60*
the individual, lives in mostly in terms of opposing forces, in relationships and balance. The problem is to keep areas of experience in balance.
the splay what can’t be classified, strong, sharp aggregations of planets at irregular points.
Individual is highly individualistic, and not easy to classify, impersonal in its interests,
Polarity, Sun-Moon, (vitality), Jupiter-Saturn (personality, soul) Mars-Venus-(efficiency)Uranus-
Dragons head [Moons North Node]
The North Node or the Ascending Node of the Moon.
Because it is not a planet but a mathematical point moving along the ecliptic, It doesn’t emit any energy of its own as such, but because it has very specific associations , it is treated like a planet.
It is the point where the Moon's orbital plane intersects the Ecliptic.
The Moons north Node has a collective influence, and is often in aspect when making alliances, or in starting new associations, in family matters and births and deaths, even fostering. It refers to groups of people, organizations and political parties, it often has an association with ones own family.
.
The North Node has the attribute of starting something new, looking forward so the energy appears to go in at this point.
Dragons tail [Moons South node]
The South or the Descending Node of the Moon. The point where the Moon's orbital plane intersects the Ecliptic when the Moon is moving in a southerly direction.
The south Node is an “energy release/out” point, often conjunctions to the south node are seen at times of endings and even deaths. It is referred to as that which has past.
Earth
Is the third planet from the Sun, from out in space Earth appears as a blue and white sphere with approximately 7-% of the surface covered with water and clouds cover about half the sky.
Earths substantial atmosphere and strong magnetic shield protect living organisms from the most harmful radiation
in space.
Van Allen Belts
The same magnetic structure is the programming source for all life on Earth, being constantly bombarded by the Suns solar wind, it is creating an ever-changing inductance field surrounding Earth.
The Earth consists of 3 main layers, a rocky 89Km crust, below the crust lies the silicate mantle which extends to about 6030 Km below, the top of the mantle is semi-liquid and is the reason why the Earths crust is broken into large plates that move slowly over the mantle. Beneath the mantle lies Earths nickel and iron core, the core is thought to be liquid with a solid centre as a result of being under enormous pressure.
The Iron core and magnetic shield effectively create a simple motor, complete with eddy currents, as we know a simple motor turns, just like the Earth rotates in a 24 hour basis. The turning of the Earth generates our time system and daily cycles.
Astrologically the Earth shows where our responsibility lies, it is always 180 degrees from the natal Sun.
Earth revolution
The orbit of the Earth around the Sun, This celestial motion takes 365 1/4 days to complete one elliptical cycle.
East point
The East point is the point where the Eastern Horizon intersects the Prime Vertical (a Great Circle passing through the Zenith and the Nadir of the Place) and the Celestial Equator (a Great Circle corresponding to the Earth's Equator projected onto the Celestial sphere.)
The East point is where the ascendant would be if a person were born on the equator, it represents how others see us, our symbol in public.
Sometimes people tune into this point more that their ascendant, and this becomes the point is activated in times of change, often it is aspected in times of death. I personally react to this point more than my ascendant in the natal chart, not the diurnal chart.
People who tune into the EP more than the Ascendant are usually non reactive to the Arabic parts, which centres the calculations around the Ascendant.
Eclipses
If the moon revolved around the Earth in the plane of the ecliptic, every new moon and full moon would be an eclipse, but since the orbit of the Moon is inclined to the ecliptic by 5 degrees, she cyclically moves across the ecliptic, sometimes she is above the Sun-Earth plane and sometimes below it, and so quite literally an eclipse depends on the latitude of the Moon.
Only about 16% of syzergies actually turn out to be eclipses. The maximum latitude for the Moon is a little over 5 degrees.
12 times a year or 12.368266 times in the course of a year the Moon follows this pattern, and twice a month she cuts the ecliptic, once at each nodal point.
The moon averages about 13 degrees movement a day [ it is faster and slower according to syzergies], it completes her orbit of the ecliptic in one Synodic month, but the Sun moves on average at only 1 degree a day, manages only 30 degrees of movement in that month period of time.
It follows at some time during the month the Moon will pass the Sun [conjunction] and a new moon will happen.
During that month, the Moon will pass in opposition to the Sun and this creates a full Moon.
Most times when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction or opposition the Moon has latitude, and is nowhere near the ecliptic.
So eclipses are pretty rare.
Because the Moon moves approximately twelve times faster than the Sun, she intercepts the ecliptic 24 times a year; the Sun only manages to be in the area of intersection on two occasions during the year, once at the north node and once at the south node, when this happens there will be a central eclipse of the Sun.
There is a two week period on either side of the exact moment of node alignment when the nodes are almost in line with the Sun. A new Moon or Full Moon falling during these periods will usually be close enough to the nodes to cause an eclipse. The closer a Syzergy is to the exact moment of alignment, the more “total “or “central” the eclipse is.
When the Moon is within 18 degrees of the node an eclipse may occur.
When the Moon gets within 11 degrees of the node, the eclipse will be classed as central.
Even at her brightest, the Moon only reflects 7% of the Suns Light.
A solar eclipse is total when the Sun is completely obscured.
It is called annular when the Sun is visible all around the Moon.
It is partial when only a part of the Suns disc is obscured.
Solar Eclipse Lunar eclipse
Duration of an eclipse is from first to last contact between the Moon and Sun, it depends upon the anomalies of Sun and Moon. I.e. their distances from apogee, this varies between two hours and five hours, and the period of totality between one and seven minutes.
For those people who read the ‘Kryon’ channelled books, Kryon mentions that the consciousness of “The New Jerusalem” started in Israel with the Eclipse of August 11th 1999, Kryon tells us that the start of the female energy was given to us at that time.
So 11th August 1999 is the start of the New age and peace on Earth. The time of the eclipse was 11:09
The eclipse was at 18 Leo 21 and was total for 2’ 23”
Eclipse intensity
The Moons orbit around the Earth is elliptical, so she is closer to the Earth at different times, and therefore appears larger in the sky than at other times.
The Moon at perigee [closest to Earth] and apogee [furthest from Earth] are the basis of the anomalistic month, which revolves from perigee to perigee.
This year is an exceptional year, 2006, it the year of the lunar standstill.
Eclipse seasons
An eclipse season occurs as the Moon comes close to the ascending node, and an increased likelihood of syzergies becoming eclipses. About six months later the Moon arrives at the opposite point of her orbit around the Sun, close to the descending node, causing a likelihood of eclipses.
So there are two eclipse seasons a year. The two seasons are actually 173.3 days apart, making the eclipse seasons regress, backward through the Zodiac, eventually the eclipses occur in every Zodiac sign.
Eclipse year
About 346.4 days
Electional astrology
A branch of astrology concerned with ascertaining the most auspicious time to begin something new, like starting a business, or getting married, travelling, signing contracts, or starting a web site.
Elements [sometimes called triplicities]
There are four elements in western astrology, [Chinese astrology has more]
These are FIRE, Earth, AIR and WATER.
Fire relates to Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
Earth relates to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
Air houses relates to Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Water houses relates to Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
They generally describe a person’s energy nature.
FIRE; houses 1,5,9 are ACTIVE, CREATIVE, EXTROVERT.
These are self employment houses, their work is through their own creative efforts, self generated. Varying from own work to publishing to distributing, travel and managing events. Often deals with a person’s morality in interacting with others.
EARTH; houses 2, 6, 10, are PRACTICAL, live in REALITY and DUTY
Earth houses are the merchants houses, they buy and sell goods, and serve other people, things that are “raw”, things that are treatments, things that make people socially admired. Often deals with a person’s attitude to materialism and social standing.
AIR; houses 3, 7, 11 are considered intellectual, dealing with CONCEPTS, IDEAS, and PLANNING.
Air houses love a conundrum, the historians, the puzzlers the communicators, the explorers, being at the cutting edge, knowing what’s going on, experimenting.
Often dealing with a persons pride and intellectual snobbery, the copyright houses, failure to distribute ideas for fear someone else might use them or build on them.
WATER; houses 4, 8, 12 SENSITIVITY and EMOTIONAL having depth of feeling, and INTROVERTED, also INTUITIVE, IMAGINATIVE.
Real estate, knowledge, money lending and taxation, insurance, looking after others, securing the future, heritage, understanding the cycles of the time, showing wisdom. These houses often deal with a persons wisdom in how they give to others, or manipulate others and support them.
Everyone has a mix of the elements within their charts, but usually one is more abundant than the others, even when it appears that an element is missing, go further into the chart and look at the decans and their rulership, usually the missing element can be found there.
Much is written on what element is missing and what element is abundant, but the fact is, that whatever elements are “missing” or low in number in our natal chart, we look for those attributes in our partner. What ever we have in abundance attracts a partner to us, to fill in their weakest element. This is the attraction of opposites and should be considered in long term relationships.
As the progressed moon moves around the chart, everyone has times of experiencing all the elements, but how the elements are used relates to the quadruplicities or qualities. These are a second grouping also known as Cardinal, fixed or mutable
ANGULAR houses 1, 4, 7, 10 show “taking new initiatives”, doing something they have never done before.
They love a challenge, abundant angular house placements make for a challenge junkie.
Beware of transits making a person jump from the frying pan into the fire; they have to learn to look before they leap, consider consequences and prior planning.
SUCCEDENT houses 2, 5, 8, 11 show consolidation, fixed opinions and unwillingness to change.
Transits to a person with abundant “fixed” placements often shows the change comes with the third and last passing of a transit, there is a refusal to move from a comfortable place into the unknown, known for keeping things going, managers, tending, nurturing, supporting are the fixed attributes.
CADENT houses 3, 6, 9, 12 show distribution, flexibility and adaptability. Often many false start’s, because they commit without giving enough thought to the plan, which can cost them time and money in business.
Considered weak houses because of easily being swayed by others, “others” can take personal power away. In an effort of teamwork, it requires self knowledge of personal strengths to make this position work the best.
Often transits deals with truth and untruth, illusion and reality, in relation to others.
Elevated planet
The most elevated planet in a chart is the one that is closest to the Midhaven, one that is above the horizon.
Esoteric astrology
Esoteric astrology is the study of the rays in a chart. A ray is comparable to the wavelengths seen in the electromagnetic spectrum.
Rays are usually used in healing, but some astrologers have used them to make charts and predictions with them. Because the rays own a certain consciousness, the blends of 3 rays make for a certain expression within a person. As each person comprises of just 3 rays, it makes for limited astrology. But as far as healing is concerned, the 3 rays are important, it is by harmonizing these 3 rays that balance is brought into the body.
An ancient method of healing required listening to the heart and hearing the harmony of the 3 rays, each person in balance has a different sound, the practitioner would know by the sound of the heart just what energy systems were out of balance and use channelled light to clear the electrical pathways in the aura, which is full or sophisticated electrical relays.
The relay for the eye is just below the tummy button, and this can usually be seen embroidered on Masonic aprons in that particular place.
There traditionally are 7 seven rays associated with the planets.
These are the related tables

Equatorial Ascendant
The Equatorial Ascendant is the point where the Polar Axis (great circle) intersects the Ecliptic in the east. The Polar Axis passes through the North and South Celestial Poles.
Equinoxes
The two equinoxes are when the length of day and night are equal.
This happens when the Sun crosses the equator, during its path along the ecliptic, the equinoxes happen in spring and autumn.
Northern hemisphere;
March 21st, Aries Spring Equinox
September 22nd, Libra, the Autumn equinox.
The equinoxes change over in the southern hemisphere.
Essential dignities
This is the scoring method for finding the most powerful planet in a chart and determining its qualities. There are 5 levels of essential dignity;
Rulership (5 points), Exaltation (4 points), Triplicity (3 points), Term (2 points) & Face/Decan (1 point). A planet with Essential Dignity, by virtue of its zodiacal position, is able to function at its best. The more dignity it has the more effective it is.
Exaltation
One of the five levels of Essential Dignity.
See table of essential dignities
The planet behaves like a guest in another’s house, it curtails its influence and behaviour in favour of the host, bringing a compromise in expression. These degrees have special dignities in their own rights.
Exaltations are basic knowledge for horary astrologers
Aries ~ Sun, 19th degree
Taurus ~ Moon, 3rd degree
Gemini ~ n node, 3rd degree
Cancer ~ Jupiter, 15th degree
Leo~ none
Virgo ~ Mercury, 15th degree
Libra ~ Saturn, 21st degree
Scorpio~ none,
Sagittarius ~ South node,3rd degree
Capricorn ~ Mars, 28th degree
Aquarius ~ none
Pisces ~ Venus 27th degree.
Firdaria
Firdaria is a predictive technique used in medieval astrology where planetary rulers are assigned to periods of life. It is associated with the Chaldean Order of the planets. Each major period starts and ends on the person's birthday.
Diurnal births commence with the Sun (10 years), followed by Venus (8 years), Mercury (13 years), Moon (9 years), Saturn (11 years), Jupiter (12 years), Mars (7 years), North Node (3 years) and South Node (2 years). After 75 years, the cycle repeats itself, starting again with the Sun.
Nocturnal births commence with the Moon (9 years), followed by Saturn (11 years), Jupiter (12 years), Mars (7 years), North Node (3 years), South Node (2 years), Sun (10 years), Venus (8 years), Mercury (13 years). After 75 years, the cycle repeats itself, starting again with the Moon.
Personally I have not found this to relate to too much, I prefer to use the Nakshatras.
Fixed stars
Are star systems that exist beyond the solar system, they are often in groups and have orbiting planets and moons of their own. Each represent an aspect of human consciousness or act.
They act like needles, piercing the natal chart. Each star that lies in the 18 degrees of the Zodiac wheel of light, has an effect on the chart, the brighter the star the more powerful it is, the fainter, the less impact.
If a fixed star contacts a planet or point in the chart, it acts as a means of transfer, passing the qualities of the star onto that planet and changing it, like the planets can be friends and enemies, obeying a magnetic polarity alignment, so do the fixed stars and planets, giving fortunate and unfortunate qualities to different combinations.
IT IS THE contact made by FIXED STARS WHICH RAISE A PERSONS PROFILE UP OR DROP IT DOWN.
By using parans to a chart, it can be seen what influences are made at what stage of life, and how a person is viewed after death.
The fixed stars are hugely important in any chart, any important event, mundane or otherwise in a persons life always has fixed star activity associated with it.
Free from the Suns beams
A planet beyond 17 degrees in longitude from the Sun
Galactic centre
The centre of gravity of the Milky Way, our galactic system, which all stars rotate around.
At this moment in time the galactic centre is 26 degrees 56” Sagittarius.
Galactic alignment dates;
Happen every 12,000 years and are half the precessionalcycle.
Eminent European astronomer Jean Meeus predicted the event before happens every 12,000 years, half of the processional cycle as being, the date of May 1998 for the alignment.
Many say December 21st 2012, in accordance with the Mayan calendar. The time of the winter solstice, in fact the alignment with the galactic centre goes right on up until 2019.
Geocentric
Means “as viewed from the centre of the Earth”, natal charts are usually geocentric, but there are suggestions than financial charts work better from a heliocentric view.
Geocentric and geographic latitude
Latitude is measured relative to the plane of the horizon and the equator and is the angle between the equator and a radius from the centre of the Earth
Geodetic houses
Geodetic means Earth based. Geodetic houses are referenced to a place or point on the Earth's surface. It does not use the usual date, time and place of birth.
Gregorian calendar
Was introduced in 1582 by the Roman Catholic Church to replace the previously used Julian calendar. The Gregorian calendar (GC) incorporated the use of leap years so the vernal equinox would continue to fall on the same date over long time periods.
Half sums or midpoints
Is basically the midpoint between two planets. Longitude of planet A + planet B divided by 2
It is a point where the two planets combine energies to give another expression.
I.e. Venus [love and good will] and Jupiter [expansion] =Venus/Jupiter= popularity
See under midpoints for further information.
Heliacal
Is the “rising and setting” with either the Sun or the Moon.
If a planet is to rise or set with the sun, it has to be within 30 degrees of the Sun, or just 17 degrees with the Moon.
The first day of the early Egyptian calendar was based on the heliacal rising of the Sun with Sirius. This event coincided with the start of the annual flood of the river Nile.
Heliocentric
The Heliocentric system shows planetary positions as viewed from the centre of the Sun.
Financial astrology uses this system.
Hertzsprung- Russell (HR)diagram
Stars are comprised mainly of large masses of hydrogen and helium which exist in a gaseous form. They could otherwise be seen as huge nuclear power houses.
In order to compare stars and see where they were in their life cycle, Hertzsprung and Russell came together and designed a diagram which showed just this, by plotting luminosity against surface temperature a picture was formed, the line of stars travelling across the diagram is known as the main sequence stars, and these are sometimes called dwarfs, this is where our Sun is placed yet some other stars are 20 times larger and 20,000 times brighter.
The super giants are in the top right hand corner, Betelgeuse is 600 million miles across. Rigel a blue super giant is 100 times the size of our Sun.
Horary astrology
The name given to the branch of astrology that is dedicated to knowing the outcome of a question or moment of action or event.
It is the Astrology of the unfolding moment, a person asks a question when they are most absorbed with the question. [To ask a question too soon or too late can provide the wrong answer, only when a person is obsessed with the question is the right time]
The astrologer follows very precise rules of dignitaries and rules referring to transfer of light and direction of movement to seek the outcome.
There are times when questions are void and unanswerable, this often happens when a person pre-empts the problem, or has a void of course Moon at the time of asking, which means it is going nowhere.
Hour angle
Measuring from the West of the Meridian, it is the difference between the Right Ascension of a planet and the Right Ascension circle on the Meridian
Houses
Over recent times there have been a huge number of different methods of house systems and divisions, probably a hundred or more calculated by various astrologers trying to achieve the ultimate one for all occasions.
The method of house divisions usually fall into one of three categories,1) an ecliptical method, using the ecliptic itself, 2)a space system, using a conceptual theory of volume of the celestial sphere, or 3) a time system, using the basis of rotation.
But whatever house system used, always the 12 Zodiac signs stay constant along with the twelve houses, representing the 12 zodiac signs and constellations that the ecliptic passes through.
Each zodiac sign is represented by 30 degrees, but in reality the constellations are between 20 degrees and 48 degrees in length.
It is wrong to think that the 30 degree Zodiac division is down to the constellations as the constellations are merely the backdrop for the movement of the Sun. The 30 degree division is down to the changing magnetics of the Sun itself and its faster rotating middle band.
The twelve houses are not related to the magnetics of the movement of the Sun, but the magnetic alignment set into our being at the time of our first breath.
I have not found these divisions to change, although its possible to overlay a relocation chart which has different house divisions on top of the natal chart.
The real axes that are important are those at the start of houses 1, 4, 7 and 10
The magnetics of Earth is variable due to its shape, so there will never be the “perfect” house system for all parts of the world. The Earth is not a perfect sphere.
Eventually an astrologer assigns a working house system to the client. In real terms astrologers fall into using favourite representatives of the three types of house division.
The houses represent a different aspect of life, each covers a very specific area, so when planets transit a house astrologers can identify which area of life is going to be effected.
The houses

Hyleg
Is a calculated point, considered to be the “giver of life” and is used to judge the longevity of life itself.
The resultant point can be the Sun, a planet, the ascendant or even the part of fortune.
Imum Coeli {IC}
Where the lower meridian intercepts the ecliptic.
The cusp of the 4th house
The natural 4th house relates to Cancer and the Moon, and is to do with the home , domestic life and one of the parents, in the western culture it is usually the Father. The Mother as the MC has the most influence on a child particularly in the first 7 years.
Ingress
This term is usually used in mundane astrology, it is when the Sun makes an ingress into the Cardinal Signs, either at the equinoxes or at the solstices. In mundane astrology the Aries ingress is considered important for the year ahead.
Invariable plane
Is the central plane of our solar system!
It passes through the Solar system's centre of mass and it is inclined about 1°35' to the ecliptic.
Joys
The planets like people are happier is certain houses, these are called “the Joys”, but being in joy doesn’t necessarily make the planets beneficial for the native, this list is derived from a 4th century text of Firmicus Maternus and the Work of William Lilly. It simply refers that the planets can work their energies well!
Mercury – 1st House, Virgo [Mercury rejoices in the 1st because the tongue enjoys being in the head. Shows a love of talking]
Moon – 3rd House; Cancer [The moon enjoys the local travel and humdrum happenstance]
Venus – 5th House Libra [Venus enjoys the 5th of fun, enjoyment and sensuality and creativity]
Mars – 6th House Scorpio [Mars likes inflicting illness and suffering, in the drudgery of the 6th house]
Sun – 9th House leo [The sun trines the other fire Houses]
Jupiter – 11th House Sagittarius [the house of good luck, prosperity and expansion]
Saturn – 12th House., Aquarius [considered the undoing , the malefic likes suffering, sacrifice, misery, suicide and assassinations, enemies and hospitalization.]
Julian calendar
Introduced in 45BC by Julius Cesar, it was the first calendar to use the cycle of the Sun, all previous calendars were related to the cycles of the Moon.
Even today the most ancient astrology of China is based on the cycles of the Moon.
Western astrology has used this mode of reference ever since.
Jupiter
Data
Jupiter is 778.3 10 6Km from the Sun
Is 5.2 AU
Has an orbital period of 11.86 years
An axial rotation of 0.410 period/day
Has an axial inclination of 3.1 degrees.

Atmosphere main components; H2, He, CH4
Jupiter is a gas giant, unlike the inner planets of our solar system which are rocky.
Jupiter rotates fast! A sidereal rotation period of 9.84 hours. This flattens the planets disc at the poles and drives dynamic weather patterns in the clouds, which envelope the planet, causing its features to change rapidly. Its banded with belts interspersed with bright but variable zones.
Jupiter is known for its “Giant Red spot” of 50,000 km long and one third as wide, It is the main feature of the clouds of the southern hemisphere, it is about 4 times larger than Earth. The great red spot moves relative to the surrounding clouds, creating complex wave patterns.
Basically Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system by far, and it protects Earth by attracting asteroids and any stray satellites into its gravity field before heading towards Earth.
Jupiter is considered the main benefic and protector in a chart.
It is also the symbol of enlightenment and expansion of consciousness.
It signifies a persons own source of wisdom, wealth, expansion and knowledge. It shows optimism, overconfidence, desire to know and improve things, it indicates spiritual knowledge, fortune, education and the state of the liver and fluids.
Principles abundance, amoral, aspirations, assists, benevolent, charity, Churches, considered by some as the planet of death.

Retrograde creates bargain hunters, people who are looking for a better deal. It can be an attempt to win back what was lost. Calling for a return of loans, redeeming coupons, getting rebates. In a relationship a person is always considering something better beyond the current relationship. A person might be successful in a disaster situation, going ahead where others see blocks. They might also spot an opportunity for profit during a disaster. They might intuit disaster before it happens. Sometimes new opportunities are not spotted, optimism can lead them up the garden path. Often Jupiter retrograde can pick up a project that others have discarded [i.e. rag & bone man, repairs man] they can see how the discarded can be repaired or rejuvenated. Self worth often comes through helping rejected and abandoned people, or helping make companies become better. As ruler of the 8th house, retrograde transits often protects the native from death.

Malefic
Considered to be destroying influences.
The planets Mars and Saturn and the waning moon which decreases in light, particularly if they are in the 8th harmonic to a planet or point.
Magnitude
This is a system of brightness of stars, that was used in the second century BC, it was a method of dividing the stars into 6 groups, the brightest being the 1st magnitude and the faintest being the 6th magnitude.
All that was done without a telescope. But today magnitude is relevant to what can be seen in a telescope.
In astrology the brighter the star, the more power it has, this is why often only the brightest stars and those lying on the suns path (ecliptic) are ever taken into consideration by an astrologer.
Also each star has a colour, and this is another form of classification, the colour shows not only the temperature but where it lies on the main sequence. The colours of the stars also likened to the planets, and their associated attributes to the planets of similar colour.
Mars
The Red planet, Mars, God of war.
Mars has a cratered surface, and thin polar caps of water and carbon dioxide ice.
It is best known for its huge volcano, Olympus Mons, which appears dormant and The Valles Marineris, which is a system of canyons of up to 4 miles deep, forming a gash 2,500 miles across the planet.
Mars is 56 million Km from Earth at its closest [last time was August 27th 2005] and at its furthest 400 million km away.
Mars has seasons like Earth, and rotates, the sideareal rotation period is 24.6 hours, and its sidereal revolution period about the Sun is 687 days.
The eye of mars is called “solis Lacus”. Thin clouds are formed around the mountains.
When Perihelion, closest to the Sun it suffers with dust storms.
It has two Moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are considered to be captured asteroids.
According to ancient esoteric literature, we resided on Mars prior to coming to Earth, [but not in our present biology], and after our Stay on Earth we will move on to Mercury.
Astrologically Mars shows a persons individual courage, initiative, desire for action, wars and muscularity. It is associated with a short body, loans, buildings, wounds, operations, accidents, cutting burning, engineering and construction and amorality.

Retrograde Mars natally, becomes less inclined to take action, and needs a fire under them to get going. This is so much so that even in a time of crisis they will still sit back, in fact a crisis is the only time they take action. They always wait to the last minute to do something/anything.
Pressure has to build up; retrograde Mars needs a pressure cooker.
By transit; it is considered an inauspicious time to start new projects, buying or building a new house, activities, lawsuits, going to war, or entering a competition, a marriage, a new business, buying equipment, working with chemicals and fire, undergoing surgeries or dental work.
Mercury
Mercury is the planet of extremes, never more than 28 degrees from the Sun, it is visible for a period of weeks in the evening sky and much later, reappears in the morning sky.
Mercury orbits the Sun at a mere distance of 58 million Km, once every 88 days. The planet rotates once every 58.7 days. Since the planets day is two thirds of the length of the year. Mercury has no atmosphere, and has extreme temperatures of between 400 degrees C to -200 degrees C
Mercury is named after an ancient Roman deity, the God of commerce, who is commonly identified with the Greek God Hermes, the messenger of the Gods, with his winged cap and sandals.

Midhaven
The Medium Coeli (MC), is the point where the Upper Meridian intersects the Ecliptic.
Usually it is the cusp of the 10th house if the house system is aligned with the MC.
The MC is a persons output in the world, the public image, the goals and aspirations; personal status as perceived by the world, work output, the closest parent, usually the mother.
Midpoints
It was through the work of Reinhold Ebertin and Alfred Witt, that the technique of midpoints developed.
A midpoint is literally the halfway longitude between any two factors, in a 180-degree circle it was originally seen there were two midpoints, but in fact it was found that any aspect of 45 degrees to the midpoint would activate it with equal intensity. Making 8 trigger points in a 360-degree chart.
To see more clearly these trigger points a 90 degree dial was introduced where oppositions and conjunctions could easily be seen, making it visually clearer to work with, particularly with progressions and directions. Some people prefer the 45-degree dial
The midpoints themselves are a combination of the two factors principles forming a 3rd expression, the expressions are not fixed but vary quite considerably, Ebertin has published a book of combined stellar influences, which give some indication of the outcome for a possible 858 combinations, but they are increasingly being added to daily, as illness and vocational work are forming part of the combinations.
With midpoints being so popular and easy to read, Emma Belle Donath has printed a book using the same technique with asteroids. Showing a more day to day expression,
The beauty of midpoints is that they do not rely upon any house system, although it is better that the person has a rectified and accurate time, it is also possible to gain readings without a known time, by discarding the Asc and Mc, but it also becomes invaluable in rectification.
The whole discipline of cosmobiology has been associated with this technique, many use midpoints in synastry, in directions, and most of all it is a pretty accurate in its timing and gives further indications as to how events happen.
The midpoints are triggered in sequence throughout the chart by the planets, giving pattern to a persons life.
Supposing Venus at 1 degree was followed by Uranus /Venus at 1degree 30, then at 2 degrees Venus /Neptune then finally at 2 degrees 10’ Venus/ Saturn, the person is likely to experience great attraction, idealism then disappointment quite quickly in each relationship, as time goes on through their life they actually will expect to find disappointment within their love life after reflection, it could be classed as a behavioral pattern or expected cycle of events, as the cycle repeats itself, different approaches are used in order to deal with it, the chart teaches by repetition.
It is said that by the time of the first Saturn return people have sampled the tests within the chart, but I would say by age 45 when considering 1 degree directions.
With experiment astrologers have found that certain combinations may produce certain illnesses in a chart, such as SU/NE/Pl indicate the possibility of polio or a blood disease, that contacts between SA/PL/MN can mean adult cancer, that SU/SA/MA may mean a brain tumor, much is written on various combinations and is being added to much of the time.
SA/NE often relates to illness, and often found in aspect to Pluto at the start of cancer.
There are many significant and meaningful midpoints i.e.
The sun/moon the blend of male and female, the expression of the person, often planets at this point show vocational work, or self-expression
Any midpoints to the sun, show further expressions of “I am” again it can indicate vocational work, success or how the people see themselves.
The Mc is how we are seen; the midpoints here tend to show our work or how we are presented or identified in the world.
The Aries point has come into its own, and work done by Don Mc broom, has shown it to be of similar meaning as the Mc, in that it thrusts what ever is at that point out into public view. I.e., sun; publicity for being well known, mercury; writing and intellectual talents.[see Aries point]
The MC/ASC midpoint placement shows significant symbolism expressed in the personality, on Pluto he could be said to have an intense and controlling attitude. on the sun a sunny extrovert or royal countenance, on Venus a sensitive, artistic or loving nature, directions to this midpoint often show life changing circumstances.
In synastry, when placing the 90 degree dials against each other, the nature of the interacting relationship is seen, e.g., ones Venus to another’s Pluto could be read as fated love, Saturn to many points could show the responsibility one feels to another, there are many meanings, but it gives the basic feeling of a relationship.
The midpoint meanings are best interpreted using their simplest terms to start with.
Sun = I am, A bird flies, I…..
Moon= emotions, mother, women
Mercury= communication, mind, speech, thought, mental
Venus= art, love, values, money
Mars= desire , will, want, anger, male

Mc= expression, ambition
Asc= personality, environment
Node= alliance, association, blood ties,
Pluto=sun/mars, formula for atomic scientist.

Midpoint trees
These are diagrams that have a slim resemblance to a tree, basically they are a pictorial list of midpoints which are effected at any one time through orb, of transit/progression/direction, activating more than one midpoint at any one time giving a simultaneous and adapted meaning to that moment..
Moiety
A planet was originally considered to have an “orb of influence”, much like an aura or field surrounding itself.
In the case of the Sun, the field is considered between 12° to 17° distance.
The moiety is half this orb and extends an equal distance before the planet and after it. If the moiety of one planet overlaps the moiety of another, by conjunction or Ptolemaic aspect, they are considered to be in aspect.
Originally planets were given moieties and aspects had no orbs.
Moon
The Moon is the intimate partner of the Earth and the closest object to Earth in space. It has no atmosphere or magnetic field capable of supporting biological life, the Moon is thought by scientists to be the result of the Earth being struck by a large object.
The Moon itself is pitted with many craters, and each is quite well documented.
The Moon is approximately 384,000Km from Earth, its rotation around the Earth takes 27.3 days. Sidereal.
The Moons rotation is locked into its period of revolution around the Earth, so we only ever see one face of the Moon.
The Moon is known for its huge crater “Tycho” possibly the result of an asteroid 100 million years ago.
The Moon is known to influence the oceans and their tides, pulling the water and creating tidal currents. It is the relationship of the Moons gravity and that of the Earth that causes two high tides a day, one every 12 hours and 25 minutes. This time interval reflects the Rotation of the Earth and the Moons rotation around the Earth.
The Moon is the “timepiece” of the chart, it is what ages us and pulls us forward in time.
In another age the effects of the Moons aging on the DNA was held at bay by a science involving giant magnetic towers, a person would be strapped to a rotating table in the powerful magnets field, it also lengthened life.

Moon wobble
Carl Payne Tobey first noticed the effects of the Moon wobble, in the 1990’s, there are usually 3.5 to 4 Moon Wobbles a year; however, occasionally there are 5, as in 1996. They signify emotional stimulation; this can work positively in getting things up and going or negatively as emotional unrest. It can be a sign of change in mundane issues.
The degrees the Moon wobble falls on in the natal chart, seem to display uncertainty and spark emotional reaction.
Mundane
A branch of astrology that concerns it self with world affairs, countries and treaties and governments and international relations, traditionally the concerns were of the rulers, and the resulting impact on the people and Nation as a whole.
Must haves; “The book of World horoscopes” by Nicholas Campion. ISBN 1-898495-01-7
“An introduction to the astrology of nations and groups” by Michael Baigent, Nicholas Campion and Charles Harvey.
Mutual reception
This concerns two planets, if they were to swap places they would be in their own sign and in rulership. I.e. If Mars was in Taurus and Venus in Aries, [ it becomes a shared rulership]. Mutual reception by ruler, there is also mutual reception through domicile and exaltation.
This mutual reception adds another dimension to the reading of the chart, when Venus is transited the meaning or Mars placement comes into the equation, and when Mars is transited the meaning of Venus’ placement comes into the equation.
Nadir
The Nadir or the Ic is directly below the Earth, it is opposite the Zenith.
Nailbod
Is the average rate of travel of the Sun along the ecliptic, at present it is 59 minutes 8.33 seconds (0.985648 degrees) of arc per day. This is sometimes called the Naibod rate.
Nakshatras
These Moon cycles are part of the Vedic astrology system, and are aligned with a sidereal Zodiac [subtract approx. 24 degrees from the tropical]. They reveal such a massive amount of information that to not use them is a handicap.
Basically it is a system comprising of 28 lunar mansions, which fall upon the backdrop of the star systems, and the fixed stars play a role in the understanding of each particular nakshatra, as well as the relationship to the Sun and the other planets.
Each Nakshatra rules over 13 degrees 20 minutes [27 x 13.3 = 360 degrees], and India is the main indicator of personality type, [in the west it is the 12 “sun signs”]
The 28 Nakshatras cycle takes 120 years to complete.
Each Nakshatra has a myth and archetype and is associated with a particular god or godess, and a planet, is male or female, a specific symbol represents each nakshatra.
The Nakshatras represent the fields of activity to where the creativity is directed, so in many ways they could be seen as opening doors of potential, and showing where a person is directing their energies.

Nocturnal births
A night time birth when the Sun is in the houses 1-6.
The time of birth has an impact on some of the calculations for the Arabic parts.
Nodes [Moon]
Verdic and Hindu astrologers have used the Moons nodes for hundreds of years, they are known as Rahu and Ketu, or dragons head and tail, and are considered fated by the astrologers.
The north node is considered a more beneficial influence than the south node which behaves like a Saturn influence. Also Rahu is considered to be a bringer of psychic gifts
A more modern use of the Nodes have been used in midpoints by Cosmo biologists charting which doesn’t rely on a house system, introduced by Ebertin and Whitt which has a great following, a more standard approach uses one of two methods of reading, one involves the aspects made between the planets and nodes, i.e., Mercury with the nodes, a strong desire for intellectual exchanges with others, Mars for team work, and fighting for common objectives, Venus, artistic contacts etc. In synastry there is often great attraction given by nodal aspects, and it is quite usual for parent and child to have nodal contacts, or even reverse signs or houses.
Another view is that the nodal axis psychologically represents the mothers love, the need for nurturing, the reflected collective need, aspects to it represent our psychological mothering, what we received and what we didn’t, like Jupiter conjunct would be an educational mother, a supportive teacher, Saturn square it, a cold and strict even absent mothering experience, planets aspecting it shows our unconscious need we put on society, where the squares show difficulties, the trines, sextiles and trines support.
The other method of reading the nodes is by sign and house, i.e., like Gemini and Sagittarius involve the mind, there are issues to be resolved using reason and logic, versus wisdom foresight and faith. The houses would be the same, like in the 7th and 1st, when the tail is in the 7th it shows the ability to make relationships, but possibly at the expense of the self, the reversal would show a need to make relationship and forgo the self. Often both methods are read together.
Some authors have taken the nodal points further, being fascinated with the spiritual aspect, some claim to read past lives by erecting a moon-node horoscope, a specialty of Bruno and Louise Huber, but if we can’t remember our past lives how can we verify their truth, but both have made much progress and results with using an age point.
Pamela Crane has developed The draconic chart, where the nodal axis is put against the first point of Aries for the ascendant, she uses some of Edgar Cayce’s clients and his work to prove its validity, apart from using it on my own chart and seeing the node conjunct the sun and moon position in Sagittarius in the 9th house, and Jupiter conj the Midhaven, I really haven’t used it on anyone else’s chart, it takes time to do, I guess that is why it hasn’t really caught on so well.
The nodes are universally recognized as measurement points for eclipses, touching the collective, personally its planetary contacts act as in associations, it refers to groups of people, political parties, unions or organizations, in the first house it relates to social life, personal associations, the second, permanent bonding, alliances, money, loyalty, devotion, the third many associations, ideas, short relationships, nursery, the fourth house, family ties, parental contact, soul unions, dependency, the fifth, popularity, many loves, team games, sixth, teaching associations, science, health, service, work relationships. Seventh, love affairs, teams public affairs, profit through others, making friends easily. The eighth, occult, legacies, secret relationships, 9th, idealistic, legal or political idealism, the tenth, honour, great achievement, business organizations, eleventh, many friendships, ideal plans, prominent social life, helpful, the twelfth, secret associations, ret homes, hospitals, nursing staff, restraint from others, philosophical interests.
Nodes [planetary]
The geocentric nodes of a planet's orbit are points where the orbit intersects the plane of the ecliptic.
When a planet crosses the ecliptic from south to north and is called the ascending node.
And when crossing north to south, the descending node, unlike the moons nodes, the planetary nodes are not opposite each other.
These points are less used in modern techniques, but in general they bring limits to the affairs concerned in the natal chart. Progressions to the natal nodal points and directions show change.
North point/south point
The Geocentric Horizon (a Great Circle parallel to the apparent horizon but passing through the centre of the Earth) intersects the Meridian (a Great Circle perpendicular to the horizon passing through the Zenith and the Nadir) at both the North Point and the South Point. The South Point is opposite the North Point. In the Horizon System, Azimuth is commonly measured clockwise from the North Point toward the East along the plane of the local horizon.
Obliquity
The angle made between the plane of the ecliptic and the plane of the celestial equator.
It is 23 degree 26 minutes at this moment in time
Oriental/ occidental
According to Lilly, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars are oriental with the Sun, from the Moment of their conjunction with the Sun until they are in opposition.
Oriental basically means “Planet rising” before the Sun, while Occidental is to be seen above the horizon or to set after the Sun is below the horizon.
Mercury and Venus can make no such aspects, being in 28 and 48 degrees of the Sun, so are judged before the Sun and behind the sun.
Out of bounds moon [OOB]
Quite simply if the moon is out of bounds, not within the scope of the sun, an eclipse cannot take place, the moon which represents ‘the people’ shows the person is not in alignment with the masses, the moon is as far away as can be experienced, there is something about these people that invites this experience, they may feel a lack of connection to mass human consciousness by not ‘towing the line’ or being one of the gang, they may be experienced as vague, or having a sense of aloneness about them, but in order to integrate they may find themselves heading a project or leading others away from the mass consciousness, introducing a maverick consciousness if you like, not one of the sheep. It is likely that the person has felt the effects emotionally of the ‘out of bounds’ moon during childhood perhaps by the lack of nurturing in the home in some way, perhaps due to both parents working, or one absent, even finding themselves in a reversal of roles by looking after a sick mother.
But this is not always the case! Some oob’s come from very loving homes.
An out of bounds moon invites the person to relate to something other than the consciousness of the mass and pick up on a need that others cannot see.
Men often marry into established families and make them their own, often not having a child of their own. A woman often has a large family.
Sometimes a person is a watcher of mass consciousness, like watching the trade markets, being slightly separate enables a person to see patterns which rise and fall, trade is just one application.
Out of bounds Mars
Without any other planets oob, Natal out of bounds Mars, usually has trigger happy emotions, but when controlled and focussed it can indicate unstoppable prowess in athletics and desire to get the job done, the pioneer who goes beyond whatever limits have already been set.
Transiting out of bounds Mars can give an indication of punctures in the skin, of splinters, stabbings and of excessive hormonal bleeding, if natal Mars is in aspect to one of the rulers of the natal axis, or in aspect to a planet in the 6th house or Saturn.
other OOB Planets
OOB Venus, talent, creativity, a complete devotion to a person or ideal, cause or pursuit. May love well but unwisely.
OOB Mars is a fighter, showing daring, is energetic, courageous, venturesome, and is often attracted to a career that is associated with elements of danger.
OOB Jupiter, has great luck many blessings and beauty, but is spoilt by it all.
OOB Uranus shows an inventive, innovative nature with a tendency towards eccentricity. There may be an impersonal, ruthless attitude and is frequently found in the charts of assassins or would be assassins. Others Howard Hughes, Aristotle Onasis.
Parallels
Two planets , or more are said to be in parallel when they are within 1.2 degrees in declination.
Sometimes the declination charts are called the second natal chart. They are felt to be more karmic, making a statement that is held in space and time and can be triggered either by a planet transiting in declination or being aspected by another planet in longitude.
Planets can be parallel or contra-parallel, in the natal chart, contra-parallel is not destructive, but an aspect made by transit can be, a parallel is considered to be a joining of energies like a conjunction, and the contra-parallel transit similar to an opposition.
Parallax Moon
The parallax Moon is considered to be a more exacting value of the Moons position because it is the average value between two points of observation on the Earth, taken at the same moment in time; if the distance between two locations is known and the angle of observation measured, the distance can be measured using trigonometry.
The parallax method is often used for finding the distances of stars, by observing the selected star from two different opposite points in the Earths orbit.
For the Moon
it is important that the observers can see the Moon at exactly the same time from different positions on the Earth's surface, then it should be possible to see parallax.
The distance from the Earth to the Moon is approximately 400,000km (250,000 miles). The Earth's diameter is approximately 12,756km (7,926 miles). This would be the maximum distance possible between Observer 1 and Observer 2. In practice, geographical (and meteorological!) effects will mean that observers are separated by less than the possible maximum distance.
By using two co-ordinates and the known distances involved, the exact degree location of the Moon can be identified.
Many astrologers including myself like to work with the parallax moon, because of its accuracy.
Paran
A term used to describe two planets being on any of the angles (within orb) at the same time due solely to the rotation of the Earth. When a planet is on one of the angles, and another planet is also on one of the angles at the same time they create a paran.
This paran method is used with fixed stars in particular. For rising , culminating, setting and lifetimes work on the nadir.
Part of fortune
Is one of the Arabic parts, that is commonly used and considered to be a part of gain.
But in actual fact can be a apart of mis-fortune, its essential to look at the midpoint this degree fall on, to see how it will work for the native.
From a spiritual perspective this shows what a person gives to others in their life time, and the known spiritual saying is what you give to others, so you shall receive.
Lilly used one formula for both diurnal and nocturnal charts.
PF = Ascendant + Moon - Sun
but today a different equation is used for day and night births.
PF = Ascendant + Moon - Sun (day).
PF = Ascendant + Sun - Moon (night).
Partile
This is where two planets are in aspect and are on the same degree, making the aspect powerful. The more exact an aspect the bigger statement it makes in a chart.
Perigree
When the Moon is closest to Earth in its orbit.
Peregrin
When a planet is without any dignity or major aspect, it tends to take over the chart.
If the planet happens to rule the 7th house, it can mean the partner is the boss. The planets horary value will indicate how disruptive or helpful it is, with a + horary value it usually works in a very positive way and can be a strong indicator of a persons vocation.
Perihelion
The point in a planets orbit when it is closest to the Sun.
The planet becomes more powerful in its expression.
Planetary and spiritual Earth changes ~dates

1987, 11 November; Harmonic convergence. “illumination”, when the last measurement of the planetary “light” was taken. This was taken before any “spiritual/physics”changes were made.
A spiritual window was opened, all on the planet agreed to receive deliveries of the new energy and have spiritual upgrades.
1988 new healing introduced; Peggy Dubro Emf Balancing technique
1989 Kryon linked up with channel Lee Caroll
1989 the Kryon magnetics “grid changing group” arrived on Earth, the start of the magnetic grid changes which would move the position of the Magnetic north pole. The pole wonders from this point until September 2002, when it becomes fixed into a new position, the Earths grid is tilted at a greater angle than before. The magnetics has changed the 30 degree Zodiac signs slightly, making Sagittarius-Gemini slightly larger.
1992, January 11th, Channel Solara spoke of 11/11, the energies of the 1987 harmonic convergence re-visited.
1993, 12 August, First human was seeded with the new Earth frequencies, to distribute throughout the planet, new ability to link into the Universal grid and activating DNA coding,…[ ready for the Venus transit, whose activation is on the pineal gland.] Interestingly, Venus is key to the new frequencies.
2001, 9/11; a few minutes before 9.00am, Manhattan, US, The energy draw to zero, many gave their lives to bring about an energy balance.
US declared war on a tribe.
2002, 11 September Earths Magnetic Grid shift completed
2003, 27 August, Mars closest to the Earth, the depowerment of countries and finances, which will come to pass in 2007/8
2003,October 28th;coronal mass ejections from the Sun pointed straight at Earth, the very first impulse of the Harmonic concordance.[the Sun being at an 11 year peak in its cycle]
2003, November 8th , The Harmonic concordance, the spiritual window of 1987 closed.
Is the middle of a 25 year cycle [this is not a known astrological cycle, or planetary cycle, possibly an Earth cycle that we have yet to identify, starting 1991.5 and finishing 2015.5]
2004 8 June; The first Venus transit, where a spiritual window was opened, the transit lasted for 6-7 hours, Kryon said the energy delivery would be; another implanting of energy into the planet that was a balance of masculine and feminine. She followed in a later channelling to say it was also about "Dispensation of Responsibility", it brings balance, love, harmony, releasing pain and suffering.
2004, 24 December; Tsunami, sacrifice led to Earth moving half a degree.
2005, 5 March, Not a solar –system based event, but an Earth event! Kryon describes it as "implantation of a feeling of originality to the planet - the original idea of paradise." This, then, is remembrance energy of the goal of the creation of planet Earth. Makes me wonder if any of the old Maya calendars predict this event, apparently many cultures know of this spiritual event.
2008 New Jerusalem built in Israel. [New “peace” human consciousness] the earliest date for cease fire
2012, 6th June 2012, second Venus transit, where the spiritual window closes.
2012 New age, delivery of energy and measurement of Earths “illumination”.
2037 the next planetary measurement of Earths “illumination”.

Precession
Is the movement or wobble of the Earths axis due to the gravitational pull between the Earth and the Moon.
The sidereal zodiac because its backdrop is constant and aligned with the fixed stars, does not experience a rotational period called the precession, the seasons move along with the axis.
The Tropical Zodiac moves backward through the Sidereal Zodiac at the rate of approximately 1degree per 72 years due to precession of the equinoxes.
Precession is caused the very slow rotation (or wobble) of the Earth's axis of rotation due to the gravitational pull of the Moon on the Earth's small equatorial bulge. Over a 2150 year period the Tropical Zodiac moves approximately 30 degrees and is called a Precessional Age or Astrological Age. The full cycle, taking about 25,800 years, is called the Precessional Year or Great Year.
During this period Tropical 0° Aries will move through 360 degrees of the Sidereal Zodiac and will return to its starting position.
It is thought that the Maya may have used this cycle in one of their calendars.
Precessional ages
Over long periods of time the Vernal Point slowly moves through the constellations.
We have currently ended of the Age of Pisces and at the beginning of the Age of Aquarius.
Prenatal new and full Moon
The Prenatal New & Full Moon is called the Syzygy Ante Navitatem (SAN)
And gives additional information of life experiences[think of it as extra programming.]
I have heard some astrologers say that the prenatal eclipses and full Moons create a “disturbance” in the natal chart, where negative experiences manifest, I have never found that to be the case ever.
Only a negative “feeling bad” emotional body can create such things.
All programming prior to birth is always a gift and often works as a link to other institutions. I.e. Hillary Clintons prenatal eclipse and the American chart.
Astrologically the pre-natal eclipses and the new and full moons before birth give additional information about the life, and the degrees of the eclipses and full Moons are usually important in triggering these experiences.
Eclipses either side of a birth often raise the profile of a person.
Priapus
A mathematical point that corresponds to position of the Moon when it is at Perigee (closest to the Earth).
The point opposite the Priapus is the Black Moon
Primary directions
Primary directions are the movements of the planets across the sky due solely to the rotation of the Earth (diurnal motion) and excludes any real motion of the planets against the zodiac background during the time frame being considered. The system of Primary Directions is based on the principle that one degree movement in Right Ascension over the Meridian (due to the diurnal rotation of the Earth on its axis) is equivalent to one year of life. Primary directions are used in the timing of events. Note: This technique is best used for charts where the birth time is known to be accurate. A 4 minute uncertainty in birth time can produce a 1 year uncertainty in primary direction event timing.
Prime vertical
The prime vertical refers to the great circle passing through the East Point of the horizon, the Zenith (the point directly overhead), the West Point of the horizon and the Nadir (the point directly below).
Profection
a predictive method of 'turning', 'moving', 'spinning', or 'advancing' the chart to see how the nature of the chart changes from year to year, month to month, etc.
Querent
In Horary, the Querent is the person who asks the question
Quotidian
Quotidian is the name given to the rate used in secondary progressions.
The most commonly used rate is called Q2 and it is based on the ratio of 1 tropical day for a year (1 : 365.24219879).
An alternate rate is called Q1 or Bija correction and is based on the ratio of 1 sidereal day for a year (1 : 366.2563992).
Radix
Radix refers to the natal, root or base chart.
Rational horizon
The Rational Horizon is the Geocentric Horizon (a Great Circle parallel to the apparent horizon but passing through the centre of the Earth) projected onto the celestial sphere.
Relocation
Relocation is a popular method of Relocating the Natal Chart to a different locality, usually the current place of residence, or a proposed destination, such as a holiday location. In the relocated chart the angles and house cusps are recalculated to reflect the new place but the planet positions will remain unaffected. The new chart can then be analysed giving an indication of how the person relates to the new environment.
Retrograde
A planet is said to retrograde when it appears to be travelling backwards through the zodiac.
in horary work, a planet transiting in retrograde motion indicates that there is a need to revise or rethink the matter , it can also mean study and growth in Mercury’s case, basically there is “more” to be revealed and researched. Which may lead to a change of mind or opinion or redesign of a project.
When electing a time for opening a business or public enterprise, it is always desirable to have all the planets moving direct, as retrograde planets can indicate many setbacks and maintenance problems that have to be repeatedly done again and again.
All of the planets will be retrograde at some point, except for the Moon which is never retrograde.
The Sun becomes retrograde against the barycentre at certain times, every few hundred years, and this phenomenon predicts many changes for humanity, there are changes in weather, finance and the movement of people to other lands, usually as refugees.
We are under the 20 year influence of such a past event now. [2006]
Retrograde Planets in the natal chart show additional gifts; it also makes a planet STRONGER and POWERFUL.
Mercury retrograde indicates people who think in a more intuitive manner and are more likely to be right-brain dominant.
Right brain thinking is more spatially orientated, and comprehends through recognizing patterns, and arrives at conclusions without seeming to go through the more logic and reason of a Mercury direct person.
If they are around a lot of analytical people, they have to go back, and figure out why they thought that way, which is more through symbols and metaphors than formulas. A person with Mercury retrograde is not linear in their thinking, but intuitive.
Venus retrograde usually indicates an unusual love interest, a person who is stimulated by something different, and who doesn’t fit into the mainstream way of being.
Often people with Venus retrogrades end up choosing to be celibate or the opposite sexual sirens.
Often people are so idealistic about love than nobody can rise to that level of expectation, sometimes people turn to religion, because God is love.
Finding a fulfilling relationship is often difficult, being at odds with the traditional and philosophical views.
Sometimes people prefer their own sex, in friendship or relationship.
Sometimes the love is for animals or a particular hobby or place.
When Venus transits retrograde, interest or disinterest in the love life is usual.
Mars retrograde usually means a person is not willing to take action, or take the initiative. These people need a fire “lit under them” to get moving.
Often situations get critical before they move, they really do need a lot of “pressure” to move. And this is the gift, they can often be the last man standing, and not provoked by others worries, they see only their truth, often action comes to them.
When Mars transits retrograde, often they mark times of inactivity in a project and as Mars transits from retrograde to direct times of accidents. Mars retrograde is generally considered inauspicious for starting new projects, buying houses, lawsuits, going to war or entering a competition, working with chemicals or fire, having surgery or dental work.
Jupiter retrograde creates great bargain hunters, a person who is always looking for a better deal.

Anlunar: Transiting Moon returns to position of Moon at the most recent solar return.
Saros cycles
A Saros cycle comprises of a family of eclipses of 223 lunation’s.
In approximately 18 years 9-11 days (6585 days) The Sun, Moon and Moon's Node return to almost the same relative places.
Eclipses in one cycle follow the same sequence in the next cycle.
There are 38 Saros Cycles, and each contains between 70 and 74 individual eclipses.
19 of these cycles start at the North Pole and 19 start at the South Pole.
Each Saros series begins at a Pole as a small partial eclipse, and each successive eclipse in the series moves a little closer to the equator and is of a slightly larger magnitude.
In time each eclipse in the Saros series gains in magnitude until they become total eclipses. When the saros eclipses in the series reach the equator they are considered to be at their strongest or most influential.
As the eclipses in the series progressively move away from the equator they are considered to become weaker until they finally reach the opposite pole from where they started about 1280 years later.
Each eclipse in the series advances 10 degrees along the ecliptic (the zodiac), and moves 120 degrees further West in longitude than the previous eclipse.
Therefore every third eclipse in the series will be at the same longitude, but of a different latitude.
Astrologically Saros cycles are most important to consider before even looking at the natal chart, they show the fabric of the person, the soul, the desire for experience which brings a human into being. It is where the desire for experience and purpose of a person is initially linked made.
The fixed stars are important in this chart, from a medical perspective; they show weaknesses in certain body parts, and medical issues that cannot be linked or gained from the natal chart.
I.e. it was this chart that predicted Michael Jackson would have a law suit made against him and he would be found “not guilty”. It was the natal chart that gave the information in what area he would be charged.
This chart is SO IMPORTANT, that to neglect it is to access only half a persons life story.

Sidereal time
Otherwise known as star time
Our most basic time cycle of day or night is 24 hours, the length it takes our Earth to complete one rotation around its axis relative to the Sun, and this is called “mean solar time”.
But the celestial sphere does not rotate around us in the same period, instead it moves along its path around the Sun, and the stars appear to rise 4 minutes earlier each night. Therefore stars appear to rise 4 minutes earlier on successive nights.
Therefore the celestial sphere rotates once in 23 hours and 56 minutes. Which is the Earths true period of rotation, and called “sidereal time”.
Sidereal zodiac
This system is most commonly used in Eastern astrology. This is the fixed zodiac where the equinoxes and solstice points move slowly back through the zodiac from year to year, due to precession which occurs at the current rate of about one degree every 71.85 years. Over long periods of time, the precessional rate can vary slowly between one degree every 70.59 years, to one degree every 72.15 years.
Solar arc
Solar Arc (SA) is a common method of calculating directions (moving all the planets in the natal chart by the same amount.) The Secondary Progressed Sun is used to calculate the Solar Arc and is close to 1 degree for every year of life.
Solar cycle
The Sun reverses the orientation of its magnetic field every 11 years, creating a 22 year solar cycle, since Sunspots, prominences and flares are all largely magnetic phenomena, they all reflect this cycle, i.e. a number of sunspots rises and falls in the 11 year period. The maximum number of sunspots typically occurs 2 or 3 years prior to the polarity reversal.
The solar cycle is hugely important in fertility cycles and predicting the financial markets. There are 4 very definite attitudes of mind related to the sunspots, that can be associated to 4 political parties.
Solar wind
The Sun produces electrons and ions that are driven away in all directions at about 750km/sec, these multidimensional magnetic particles form the solar wind.
The Solar wind can be observed hitting the Earths magnetosphere as the Aurora
The spectacular aurora is the effect of moving charged particles and magnetic fields in the upper atmosphere, a stream of charged particles from the Suns outer plasma layer hit the Earths magnetic field distorting it from its dipolar shape, the charged particles travel at approximately a million miles an hour or 750km/sec, the winds stream past the Earth, the streaming particles cover a region in space called the magnetosphere, the magnetosphere tail trails around 2 million kilometres on the dark side of the Earth, reaching far beyond Pluto’s orbit to about 100 astronomical units from the Sun, a boundary called the heliopause. Those particles which do manage to escape from the polar ends are replenished from the on going solar winds.
Solstice
At a latitude of 23.5° N, the tropic of Cancer, the Sun just reaches the zenith on the summer solstice.
At 23.5° S, the tropic of Capricorn, it just reaches the zenith on the winter solstice.

Synastry
The comparing of two charts in relationship to each other, usually synastry is looked at for compatibility in business or marriage. In a marriage chart, there should be challenges to keep the couple interested and together, as well as harmonious aspects for understanding. When two people commit to each other their joint charts can bring prosperity and growth and new interests, or they can take away what has already been gained.
Syzergies
New and full Moons. A lunation or new moon, is the phenomenon which occurs when the Moon, during her orbit arrives at the same Zodiacal position as the Sun, as the Moon passes conjunction she waxes [increases in light] until she arrives at the opposite point, and after opposition with the Sun starts to wane [decrease in light]. New and full Moons are known collectively as syzergies.
The Field
In 1965 Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson of Bell telephone Labs were tracking sources of static in the receiver system of a radio telescope, after taking all they could away, they were left with a static sound they were unable to eliminate, this turned out to be the background radiation coming from the sky, at an extremely cold -445 degrees Fahrenheit, only 2.7 degrees above absolute zero. The discovery won them the Nobel prize for physics in 1978.
This is the sound of the cosmic web/lattice that works on cold fusion.
Time Zones
Time zones are a standard system which divides the 360 degrees of longitude around the Earth into 24 time zones, because our clock time has 24 hours in a day.
15 degrees of Earth longitude relates to 1 hour.
The time Zones are shown below, but as you can see different areas have adopted different time zones, along with daylight saving which was introduced after 1784. It is the time zones that make hand calculations pretty difficult. Thank-goodness for astrological software.
Transits
The planets in transit are the cycles of living.
A planet can never be considered alone but in constant relationship with all the other planets in transit.
The relationship between any two planets in their 360 degree cycle is constantly changing and this relationship between the planets is known as in transit, when planets are at critical transit degrees to each other, [an angle that forms part of a geometric shape], we know that our bodies are magnetized to bring a certain event to us.
And depending on our vibration, these events can be good or bad, often they are seen as change to what exists.
The trines and sextiles are seen as beneficial in as far as we are magnetised to bring good things to us, but this might not be the case if a person is on a vibrational low, a negative outlook, they may just not have the energy to make the most of the opportunity.
The aspects of squares and oppositions and semi- squares are considered hard aspects, which force change, often by being made to feel uncomfortable, restless or being challenged by others.
Not only do the planets make transiting aspects between themselves but aspects to the natal chart, the magnetics of the sky at out first moment of breath.
And although the daily transits affect our lives, the transits to the natal chart are our personal journeys and quest.

Triplicity
The Triplicities are associated with the Elements. Link to elements
Tropic of Cancer

Is the inclination of 23 degrees 28 minutes of the Suns path to the ecliptic during the Summer solstices!
When the Summer solstice occurs in the Northern Hemisphere the Sun is at 0 degrees Cancer and its declination reaches a maximum of 23 degrees 28 minutes north and is referred to as the Tropic of Cancer.
Tropic of Capricorn
Is the inclination of 23 degrees 28 minutes of the Suns path to the ecliptic during the winter solstices!
When the Winter solstice occurs in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Sun is at 0 degrees Capricorn, the Sun's declination reaches a maximum of 23 degrees 28 minutes south and is referred to as the Tropic of Capricorn.
Planets, when they make a declination greater than this degree of the Sun are said to be Out of bounds. Beyond the influence of the Sun and Saturn in declination. The Sun is the great benefactor and Saturn is the great restrictor, So actions symbolised by the OOB planets are fearless, and without benefit to the self.
And likewise the energies can be used for abuse or in a humanitarian way.
Tropical Zodiac
This is the zodiac used by western astrologers, it is not necessarily the best zodiac, but possibly ideal for a farmer, [not an astrologer] because it is has consistency year in and year out .
Astrologically a sidereal zodiac is more in tune with the planetary cycles. Eventually there has to be an alignment with these natural cycles.
The tropical zodiac is where the equinoxes and solstice points stay at the same zodiacal degree from year to year, keeping in step with the seasons.
True Node
Originally the average movement of the Moons node was calculated by the number of degrees travelled retrograde in a month.
But today the Moons true node logs times of direct and retrograde motion which happens regularly a few times in a month, so often the true node is a couple of degrees different from the mean node.
I find the true node is more accurate in timing than the mean node, but some astrologers prefer to work with the mean node.
Under the Suns beams
A planet is said to be afflicted or restricted in its effect when under the sun beams, it is an Electional astrology term, for a planet when it is between 8.5 degrees and 17 degrees from the Sun
Universal time
The solar mean time calculated for the GMT meridian.
Uranus
Discovered by Herschel on March 13 1781.
Uranus is tilted at an angle of 98 degrees to its plane of orbit, and is seen as a giant blue green disc of about 6th magnitude from Earth.
It looks slightly elliptical because of its rapid rotation.
During its 84 year round orbit of the Sun, each of its poles periodically faces the Sun and experiences a day that last 42 days.
Uranus has a sidereal rotation of 17.9 hours at the equator.
Uranus has a sidereal revolution period of 84 years about the Sun.
Uranus has 15 moons, an atmosphere of hydrogen, helium, methane and ammonia, its upper clouds are estimated to be about -330 degrees Fahrenheit [-200c] making the ammonia exist as ice crystals.

Venus
Venus is the most fascinating planet of our solar system and yet its close association to Earth cycles remains a mystery to us at this time, the Mayans and ancients of a past age looked to Venus for times of war and prosperity and made calendars that aligned with Venus’s cycles.
Venus is known as the evening star and the morning star, depending on when it rises before or after the Sun.
When Venus was in obscurity, hiding behind the Sun, was the time the Mayans predicted war.
Venus is never seen more than 48 degrees away from the Sun.
Venus is covered by clouds of water and vapour and dense sulphuric acid. The planets temperatures approach 860 degrees Fahrenheit and is the hottest in the solar system.
Venuses atmosphere is mainly carbon dioxide, which the heat cannot escape through.
Venus is by far the brightest “star”, and can be seen in daylight, it spends one season in the evening sky and another in the morning sky.
Venus has phases like the Moon, and crescents can be seen.
The planet is at its brightest when showing only a large thin crescent, because it is then very close to Earth.
Venus sidereal revolution is 225 days and the rotation period is 243 days.
It has no moons.

The Venus transit;
Written at the time of the Venus transit of 2004
A medical phenomenon
The differences in man today and devolution in ages past has been down to the use of the pituitary gland, regressing back into the brain. The new energy will stimulate the pituitary again causing it to grow again, the stimulation of the pituitary will also create changes in the hypothalamus, which is positioned behind the pituitary.
From iridology we see that the pituitary gland touches on mental speech, mental ability and the pineal gland; sensory locomotion and ego pressure.
NB. Its very difficult to physically separate the hypothalamus from the pituitary, as the pituitary gland lies in the hypophyseal fossa of the sphenoid bone below the hypothalamus, to which it is attached by a stalk.
The pituitary consists of 3 distinct parts, which originate from 3 different types of cells. Anterior lobe; ‘up growth’ from the glandular tissue and the pharynx, posterior lobe; down growth of nervous tissue from the brain, the intermediate lobe; where hormones are found during pregnancy.
The pituitary gland pours a growth hormone into the blood stream, and targets many glands and tissues, but those most notable are; Thyroid gland, islets of langerhans, the adrenal cortex, breasts, ovaries and testis.
There are about 13 hormones identified so far which operate on a negative feedback system. The hypothalamus stimulates the glands to produce and release hormones.
The growth hormones stimulate the growth of the skeleton, muscles, connective tissue and organs such as the kidneys, the liver, pancreas, intestines and adrenal glands.
It inhibits the secretion of gastric juice, emptying of the stomach, platelet aggregation and it diminishes the production and transmission of nerve impulses.
Increased secretion is stimulated by exercise, anxiety, sleep and hypoglycaemia.
The hypothalamus stimulates the thyroid gland by TRH, by a negative feedback system.
It is fair to say that the hypothalamus is the master gland, the controller of the others within the body.
Because the hypothalamus cannot be seen as separate from the pituitary, it comes for now under the same influence of Venus and the pituitary gland.
If we look at the hypothalamus and the pituitary in iridology we can see that it is located at the top of the iris, which would be the MC position in astrology, and at the base of the eye we see the Adrenals whose input in the root chakra and the Ic, The grounding.
In reflexology the pituitary gland is in the same reflex zone 1 areas as ; pineal and hypothalamus, thyroid, duodenum, transverse colon, bladder, [not kidney], trachea, tonsils, lymph drainage, pancreas, adrenals, stomach, mammary glands, vocal chords, heart, penis/ vagina, uterus/prostrate and of course all of the spine and head.
This means that literally every system in the body is connected to the hypothalamus via the pineal gland.
[Perhaps there are further hormones of the hypothalamus yet be found!]
The notable systems are; Nervous; muscular, skeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, reproductive. Not to mention the temperature system.
The hypothalamus has been related to controlling appetite for some time now and as all women know, there is a relationship between menstrual cycle and eating, hormone change and eating. Many menopausal women complain of the desire to eat more.
Ancient wisdom puts the hypothalamus high on its list in esoteric studies and practices and knowledge.
It is THE gland to gain control over.
Practiced masters can control their temperature, sitting amidst ice and meditating with little clothing, going without food, controlling their sexuality and menstruation, muscular systems and much more.
All monastery training was geared to gain control over the hypothalamus and the body.
The Vagus nerves are cranial nerves which runs down either side of the body they attach themselves to the pharynx, larynx, trachea, heart, oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, gall bladder, bile ducts, spleen, kidneys, urethra, and blood vessels in the thoracic and abdominal cavities. They are said to convey impulses from the lining membranes of the same structures of the brain.
Esoteric teachings say that there are nerve fibres in the endocrine glands which reach out through the vagus nerves. I have not as yet identified nerve fibres in endocrine glands in any Medical books, which makes me think that the link is not chemical but aligned magnetic fields, like lay lines.
Which would account for the zones in reflexology.
But back to Venus;
The new energy on the planet which started with the Harmonic convergence of 1987 will lead to ‘enlightenment’ for all. It was a time we were ‘awakened’.
Being awakened means the activation of the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, the new energy has stimulated the growth of the pituitary and the hypothalamus, they are naturally working through the stages of stimulation which required ancient wisdom practices in the old energy
In the western world the most notable epidemic of this time is Obesity, the new energy has triggered an imbalance which creates the primeval urge to eat, whether the stomach feels hungry or not. Diabetes [Venus aspecting Jupiter] has grown to an all time high, with many sugary and high carbohydrate foods desired and available.
People who were not fat before are now, but this new energy is working for us, diet and exercise is the answer. With the hypothalamus balanced, many diseases that we accept as inevitable will go.
One other change that will become apparent is the control of body temperature.
So when we look at a person’s chart and the location and aspects of Venus, we can guess at what growth they are going through and what illness may be triggered through the growth of the pituitary gland.
Venus illnesses include ; skin diseases and colour discolouration, as esoterically the pituitary is responsible for skin colouration.
Diabetes.
Hives
Arthritis
Circulatory problems
Water retention
esophagitis
Back ache
Bladder problems
Venus illness in a chart generally indicates the glandular system, neck, tonsils, kidneys, veins, cheeks, skin and bladder.
Some esoteric books place Uranus in association with the pituitary gland, Uranus is the Soul ruler of Venus in association to Libra, [Taurus and Venus has a soul ruler of Vulcan]. Strictly speaking Uranus rules the sacral chakra and the reproductive system.
The pineal and hypothalamus in action does feel like it might be associated with Uranus, as when it awakens little shocks seem to travel like lightening, down to the back of the mouth.
The 8th of June this year sees the rare event of a specific Venus transit, where the planet Venus passes between the Earth and the Sun . This Venus transit lasts for 6-7 hours This Venus transit lasts for 6-7 hours and will happen again exactly 8 earth years minus two days.
This Venus transit will symbolize another evolutionary uplift for humanity.
Recent transits of the Venus Phenomena are;
1518 (1526)
1631 (1639)
1761 (1769)
1874 (1882)
2004 (2012)
2117 (2125)
These times fall in with the Mayan calendar and the time of the new ‘golden age’ starting in 2012.
The transit of 8th June 2006 and 6th June 2012
In the 243-year Venus Passage cycle there are two pairs of transits spaced 121.5 ±8 years apart. The last Venus Passage (pair) occurred 129.5 years ago in 1874 and 1882. The next pair will happen 113.5 years from this one, in 2117 and 2125. Although the transits currently occur in pairs, this is not always the case, sometimes there is only one transit!
Vertex
I have heard various interpretations for this point, many call it a fated point,
a point of productivity, or the electrical point of the chart, and I have seen all these interpretations show themselves, often directions to the vertex signal major changes often in jobs, transiting planets in conjunction bring people to aid us.
After much research I have found the vertex and anti-vertex works very like an axis, the vertex represents our unconscious downfall, and full individual expression, the vertex is something we need to work on to obtain the fruits of the anti-vertex. Often it is behaviour, a response, a lack in ourselves. When a planet conjuncts it, we have help with our problem, as Jupiter conjuncts the vertex we gain advice from someone we meet, to overcome our problem. Often it represents the unconscious fear we have to walk through, which is not like Saturn which represents the conscious fear.
Homeopathic remedies can be ascertained on understanding this axis alone.
Any point that touches the ecliptic like the Ascendant and MC axis or vertex, is open to “psychic impressions, the IC tends towards mediumistic abilities, while the vertex tends towards “reading the magnetics” .
Via combusta
This is an area of the zodiac between 15° Libra and 15° Scorpio. It is Considered to be an unfortunate zone of the zodiac, and associated with danger.
Strangely enough in a newspaper study of Luck, or fortune, being born during October was considered the unluckiest time of year, and November closely behind. The Luckiest was considered the Taurus births, and Gemini, and the summer births, all which related to the Sun being overhead. Generally the hemisphere where the Sun was in had better heath.
In horary astrology, it is unwise to read the chart while the Moon is in the Via Combusta.
Void of course Moon
Usually this is used in Electional charts but, its meaning stretches further.
The Moon is considered to be void of Course if it does not form a major aspect to another planet before it leaves the sign it occupies. A VOC Moon in a horary chart suggests that the matter will come to nothing.
The Titanic sailed with a void of course Moon, it clearly indicated that it would not reach its destination; it may have been possible for the ship to have circled in the water and eventually be rescued by another.
Astrology is always about energy transfer, and the moon is the quickest transfer, the Moon is the buffer of time.
In an Electional chart, it often is referred to what is lost.
Vulcan
Vulcan is considered a hypothetical planet, as it has never been confirmed of its existence, it orbits around the Sun, never being more than 8 degrees 20 minutes away in distance, therefore it is either in front of the Sun or behind it.
Vulcan is thought to be quite huge about a third of the Suns diameter, a mass of energy /gas that may possibly be in the infra red range or beyond.
It orbits the Sun every 18.6 days.
It could be that this is an energy point associated with the Sun itself that has an impact on us.
Vulcan astrologically is associated with detachment, loss and relationship loss, sometimes from the physical, as it often is in aspect in death charts.
Waning Moon
When the Moon is waning it is decreasing in light and is in the last half of its cycle of 14 days from the time of the full Moon, when the Moon is opposite the Sun.
In Electional astrology it is considered to be a time for reaping the rewards of plans implemented during the waxing Moon. [or earlier.]
Waxing Moon
When the Moon is waxing it is increasing in light and is in the first half of its cycle , the waxing Moon refers to the first 14 days from New Moon, where the Moon conjuncts the Sun
Electoral astrology considers this to be a good time for making and putting plans into action.
West point
The West Point , otherwise known as the Equatorial Descendant is a point where the Western Horizon intersects the Prime Vertical (a Great Circle passing through the Zenith and the Nadir of the Place) and the Celestial Equator (a Great Circle corresponding to the Earth's Equator projected onto the Celestial sphere.
Zenith
The Zenith is the highest point directly above the Earth.
Zodiac [Tropical & Sidereal]
The Zodiac is a belt of only 18 degrees which extends up to 9 degrees north and south of the ecliptic.
The Zo-di-ac translates as “wheel of light” and this is what it must appear as if we were to step into a slower time frame.
Possibly this wheel of light may refer to the Van Allen belts, which receive interdimensional magnetics from the Sun on the solar wind. The Van Allen belts contain a high density of charged particles trapped in the Earths magnetic field. The inner belt contains protons with energy greater than 30MeV. [ Its supposed to have a mean radii of 1.6 times that of Earth, but possibly the distance away from Earth would concentrate its highest density around the ecliptic.]
